The Sakhas Krishna’s Playgroup - Lattutop

The Sakhas Krishna’s Playgroup

In the magical land of Vrindavan, the sun always shines like a golden coin, and the grass feels like a soft green carpet. This is where young Krishna lives with his very best friends—the Sakhas!

Sakhas of Lord Krishna

The Sakhas are a group of happy cowherd boys. There is strong Balarama, funny Mansukha, and kind Sridama, Subala, Madhumangala, Sudama, Arjun, Gandharva, Vasanta. They wear colourful turbans and peacock feathers in their hair, just like Krishna. Every morning, they wake up, grab their wooden sticks, and take their cows to the meadows.

But do you know what the Sakhas love most? They love to play!

One sunny afternoon, Krishna called out, "Sakhas! Who is ready for a challenge?"

From their little cloth bags, every boy pulled out a beautiful, smooth Wooden Lattu—a traditional spinning top. These Lattus were painted in bright reds, yellows, and blues.

"I bet my Lattu can dance the longest!" shouted Mansukha with a giggle.

The boys wrapped long cotton strings around their wooden tops. They stood in a circle, held their breath, and—ZING!—with a quick flick of their wrists, they launched the Lattus onto the flat ground.

The Lattus began to hum. Spin, spin, spin! They looked like tiny, whirling rainbows dancing on the dusty earth. Krishna’s Lattu was a bright peacock blue. It spun so fast it looked like it was standing perfectly still.

"Look at them go!" cheered the Sakhas, clapping their hands.

As they played, the cows munched on grass and the birds sang along. Sometimes, a Lattu would bump into another and go click-clack, making the boys burst into laughter. For the Sakhas, it didn’t matter who won. What mattered was the fun they had together.

When the Lattus finally stopped spinning, Krishna picked up his wooden top and tucked it into his waistband. "Playing with friends makes the day so sweet," he said with a big smile.

As the sun began to set, the Sakhas walked back home, tired but very happy. They couldn't wait to wake up tomorrow and do it all over again.

Talk Point: Krishna and his friends love playing with their Wooden Lattu Tops! It’s a wonderful way to practice focus and have fun with friends, just like the Sakhas did in Vrindavan.
