Devaki Maiya: The Brave Mother Who Saved Little Krishna
Long, long ago, in a beautiful land called India, there lived a very kind and gentle lady named Devaki Maiya. She had a heart full of love and a smile that shone like the sun. Devaki is very special because she was the first mother of Little Krishna, the sweet boy with the peacock feather in his hair.
A Brave Secret
Devaki lived in a big palace, but she had a very mean brother named Kansa. Kansa was not kind at all, and he was afraid of Devaki’s babies. Because Devaki loved her children so much, she knew she had to be very brave to keep them safe.
One stormy night, when the rain was pitter-pattering on the roof and the wind was whistling "whoosh, whoosh," something magical happened. A tiny baby was born! He had skin the color of dark clouds and eyes that twinkled like stars. This was Baby Krishna.
A Mother’s Greatest Love
Devaki looked at her beautiful baby boy and felt so much joy. But she remembered her mean brother, Kansa. She knew that to keep Krishna safe, he couldn't stay in the palace.
Devaki loved Krishna so much that she decided to send him to a safe place where he could grow up happy and free. Even though it made her a little sad to say goodbye, she knew that a mother’s love means doing what is best for her child.
The Midnight Journey
Krishna’s father, Vasudeva, placed the tiny baby in a soft wicker basket. He carried the basket on his head through the pouring rain. The big River Yamuna saw the little baby and stayed very calm so they could cross.
Krishna went to live in a cheerful village called Gokul with another kind mother named Yashoda Maiya. In Gokul, Krishna could play with the cows, eat yummy butter, and dance under the trees without any worries.
Happy Memories
Devaki Maiya always kept Krishna in her heart. She knew he was out there playing his flute and making everyone laugh. Later, when Krishna grew up to be a strong hero, he came back to see Devaki. He gave her a big, warm hug and thanked her for being so brave.
Every year, during Janmashtami, we remember Devaki Maiya. She teaches us that mothers are incredibly strong and that their love is the most powerful magic in the world!
